About Shiatsu

Shiatsu literally means "finger pressure" and is very popular in Japan as a healing therapy. The treatment approach and philosophy is similar to acupuncture but shiatsu does not use needle. Shiatsu is manipulation treated by fingers, elbows and knees, in which sustained comfortable pressure is applied to all parts of the body along the meridian lines. The meridian lines have been described as "egenergy channels in the body", and pass through and connect with the vital organs.

Shiatsu is the aim of enabling ki/chi (life force) to flow smoothly throughout the meridians, but sometimes ki is blocked, and this can cause health problems. Shiatsu aims to relieve these blockages. Shiatsu is the art of awakening a person's own innate healing ability and guiding it in a direction that allows the body to heal itself.
